JELENA TOMASEVIC (BOSILJCIC)


Jelena Tomasevic (Bosiljcic) was born in Negotin {Serbia, Yogoslavia} on 1. November, 1983.
She is a Serbian pop singer famed for her strong vocal performances, because of it Serbian called her "ethnic treasure"!
Jelena finished Elementary School and Mathimatic Gymnasium in Kragujevac and she graduated high school
also there in 2002. The same year she started her studies at the University of Kragujevac at the
English languange - Bibliothiconomic. She had put her studies on hold and she graduated in 2009.

Jelena enterted the world of music in her hometown Kragujevac, at the young age of eight
when she won the top award at the Children's Music Festival ,,Sarenijada" in Kragujevac.
Three years later, in 1994 she performed to a much larger audience, at the Yogoslavian Children's Festival
and she became the winner, the festival held this year in Kragujevac.

After she joined in a folklore group in Kragujevac, called Kud Abrasevic {Abrasevic Folklore Ensemble}
one of the most successful Serbian ensembles. First she was dancing there for 7-8 years but after she became
one of the main vocalist for the folklore group. With this folklore group, Jelena toured all over Europe
and they won many awards for their dance as well as Jelena won many awards with her vocals
and her music career soard.

From then she achieved tremendous results at the various and prestigious internationals festivals such as the
Czech Republic, Belarus and Bulgaria, where she won various awards.
In 2002, she competed and won over the jury in the superfinal of the TV show ,,3K dur" a style of Serbin Idol
which was broadcast on RTS3 {Radio Televizija Srbija - Radio Television Serbia} with the aim of promoting young talented artists.
After this turning point in Jelena's career, she made a huge breakthrough.
In 2003, she competed for the first time at the Budva Festival with song ''Rano da verujes" and finished second at the prestigious festival
,,Slavjanski bazar" by singing the song ''Zlatni dan'' in Belarous.
Also she made a guest appearance on CD of the popular music group ,,Biber'' with songs ''Jare moje" and "Cije je ono devojce''.

In 2004, she competed with great success at the Beovizija Festival {Serbian National selection for the Eurovision
Song Contest} by singing the song ''Kad ne bude tvoje ljubavi''.
In 2005 she met Zeljko Joksimovic {Popular Serbian singer \ composer} and started a professional involvement
with him. Also she became a member of the Minacord Production Company.
The same year Zeljko Joksimovic composed for her the song ,,Jutro" {Morning} which she competed
at the Beovizija 2005 and lyrics written by Aleksandra Milutinovic. She became the winner.
Jelena was considered one of the favourites at the Serbian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Ultimately and unfortunately she missed out in controvesial fashion at the overall Serbia and Montenegro final
{Evropesma - Eurosong), when all four Montenegrin jurors overlooked it in distributing their points and she came second.
This was to be the country's last ever appearance in the contest as in 2006, both peacefully decided to go their separate
ways and became independent countries.
Later the same year, she sang to the film ,,Ivkova Slava" the songs "Nema koga", "More dodjose mi gosti'' and "Lastavicicke'' which was composed by Zeljko Joksimovic
and she also guest starred in the movie. The film pulled in a record number of viewers.
She made a guest appearance on Zeljko's album in 2005 with songs "Ne treba ti neko kao ja'' and ''Idi na put''.
Also Jelena opened the Euro Basket 2005 in Belgrade.

In 2007, Jelena written the lyrics of the Milena Vucic's song called ,,Gotova Stvar".
The same year record label company ,,Minacord'' signed her up!

In December 2007, Jelena Tomasevic entered the Beovizija 2008.
Open competition with the song ,,Oro'' {Dance} also composed by Zeljko Joksimovic and written by Dejan Ivanovic.
On 10th March, 2008, she won the Serbian national selection having received the highest number of points from
both the jury and televoters. She was awarded the best interpretation prize by selection jury.
She represented Serbia in Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade. She was one of the favourites in contest.
Ultimately she coming sixth with 160 points.
Her song ,,Oro" awarded of OGAE Greece as the best song in Eurovision Song Contest 2008.
Jelena recording her euro song ,,Oro'' also in Greek, Spanish and Portuguese languange.
The Greek version called ,,Ela Agapi" {Come on love} written by Katerina Nistopoulou.
The Spanish version called ,,Adios Amor'' {Good-bye Love} written by Ivana Cabraja.
And the Portuguese version called ,,Minha Dor'' {My Pain} written by Vasco da Camara Pariera.
[The ,,Oro" is a old and very popular dance bazed on a ancient Serbian belief-dream.
Before the day of Holly Vitus {Juny 28} put a Vitus flower, which called Vovodcica, under the pillow.
And then these words you should say: "Holly Vitus phenomenal, show my fated love - Come to my dream,
come and meet me."
If you do this, it's said, in two days you'll come to know your intended.
This ancient belief still exists in some places of Serbia. Nowadays, some girls, in a dream look for their fated one.
But, when loved one is gone, that loss is felt like losing a part of oneself. Hanker is born!
And soul is singing, crying for love.
Rhythm is given in three steps forward, two steps back.
With that kind of music, in oro throughout centuries, people dancing on this soil.]

In Otober 2008, Jelena released her debut album ,,Panta Rei" in gerne pop and ethnic and label by Minacord.
Her song ,,Kosava'' from that album, was presented in the RTS show ,,Beogradska Hronika'' on 29 March 2008.
Composering by Zeljko Joksimovic too. The video clip to the song was filmed in a Belgrade villa built in 1907 and
will be the main song of the album.
The album including 25 tracks, with two of they, she entered to represent Serbia {and Montenegro}
in Eurovision the ,,Jutro" {Morning} and ,,Oro'' {Dance}.

Also she taking a part in the collection ,,Balkan Routes vol.1 Nikola Tesla".
A collection with songs of district of Balkans. Every Balkan country has part in collection.
Jelena has part with the song "Nikola Tesla", composered by Zeljko Joksimovic and her vocals.
This song is the soundtrack of the Nikola Tesla seria in Serbia.
The CD circulated of the Greek music company ,,Protasis music" in 2008.
And this is circuleting all around the Balkans.
The executive producer is Mr. Dimitris Meidanis.
The first collection is dedicated to the big Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla!

In 2009 Jelena also recorded a song dedicated to peace along, with the participants of Eurovision 2008
Boaz Mauda {Israel} and Sirusho {Armenia}.
The song is called ,,Time To Pray", the lyricist of the song is the president of Israel and Nobel Peace Prize winner
Mr. Shimon Peres and composers are Boaz Mauda and Tomer Biran.
The lyrics is on Serbian, Hebrew, Armenian and English languange.
The world premier took part in Beovizija 2009 in Serbia.
With this song, they three 2008 Eurovision contestants, who represent countries that have been through similar pain
have joined to sing this beautiful song, which they and we hope, will bring peace between countries.

In 2010 Jelena circuleted a song is called ,,Gde da odem da te ne volim", which is written by Jelena Trifunovic
and composered by the popular singer \ composer Tose Proeski, one of the biggest Balkan artists.
Unfortunately Tose isn't in life, he died in a automobilist mishapin in Croatia in 2007, when he was only 26 years old.
This Jelena's song is into collection ,,Tose i prijatelji" {Tose and friends} that is a collection on his memoriam in 2010.
The spot of this song was filmed in Es Vives Hotel in Ibiza {Spain} on Summer of 2010.
Now Jelena is planning to realise a single at the ends of December!
